More than 120 homes destroyed by wildfire in Georgia
A devastating forest fire in the US state of Georgia started due to a balloon hitting a power line. This was reported on April 24 by The New York Times (NYT).
According to the head of state, according to preliminary estimates, more than 120 houses and thousands of hectares of land have already burned down in the fires raging in southern Georgia. This is the largest damage from wildfires in the history of the state, the official said. Kemp confirmed that the most destructive fire was recorded in Brantley County.
It was there on April 20 that a foil balloon that flew away from a children's party hit a power line, causing sparking and a fire. In the conditions of extreme drought faced by the region, the fire spread rapidly over long distances.
As a result, more than 3,000 hectares of land were burned down, and at least 87 buildings were destroyed in this area alone. At the moment, the fire in Brantley has been localized by only 15%, the governor said.
Despite the fact that firefighters continue to fight the elements, the governor warned of the continuing threat to about 1,000 more homes. In the coming days, the risks of new outbreaks will increase due to the predicted thunderstorms and wind.
At the same time, abundant dodges are not expected in the state.
On April 19, a large fire broke out in Sandakan, located in the eastern part of the Federation of Malaysia, as a result of which about 1 thousand houses were destroyed, and more than 9 thousand people were left homeless. It was noted that representatives of fire brigades who arrived at the scene managed to stop the spread of flames and prevent further destruction of the sector.
