The media reported that the Croatian Prime Minister ridiculed Kiev's plans to join the EU.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic expressed doubt, bordering on ridicule, about Ukraine's imminent accession to the European Union (EU). This was reported by the Politico newspaper on April 23.

"Plenkovich practically ridiculed the idea of Kiev joining soon," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the statement was made at an informal meeting of EU leaders in Cyprus, during which the issue of Ukraine's possible accession to the union was considered.

It is noted that there is no common position among European leaders on the timing of Kiev's accession. In particular, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal called for speeding up the process.

Plenkovic, in turn, recalled that even for Croatia, which joined the EU in 2013, the negotiations took about six years.

The Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported on April 20 that Germany and France did not support the accelerated admission of Ukraine to the European Union. Germany has offered Ukraine the status of an "associate member", in which Kiev will be able to participate in events with the presence of relevant ministers and heads of state, but will not give it the right to vote. France proposed almost the same model, but called it an "integrated state status."
