The European Commission has deprived the Venice Biennale of a grant of € 2 million for the invitation of the Russian Federation

Members of the European Commission (EC) have officially confirmed their decision to deprive the Venice Biennale of a grant of €2 million due to the decision to invite Russian representatives to the exhibition, according to a press release on April 23.

On March 12, the European Commission told Izvestia that it officially condemns the decision of the Venice Biennale Foundation to allow the Russian delegation to participate in the festival. The EC also added that European culture should promote and protect democratic values, support open dialogue, diversity and freedom of expression, while in Russia these values allegedly do not exist.
