The Russian diplomatic mission in Stockholm has asked the Swedish authorities to help supply water and food to the crew of the detained Kaffa vessel. This was announced on Wednesday, April 22, by Russian Ambassador to the Kingdom Sergey Belyaev.

"The Russian Embassy has asked the Swedish side to assist in supplying the ship's crew with water and food," the head of the diplomatic mission said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The detention of the Kaffa cargo ship by representatives of the Swedish Coast Guard in the Baltic Sea became known on March 6. At that time, it was reported that the captured vessel was sailing in Swedish territorial waters under the Guinean flag. The next day, it became known that of the 11 people on board, 10 were Russian citizens.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 9 that the Russian side would take measures to protect interests in the event of the seizure of domestic tankers. According to him, cases of piracy in international waters have been recorded in recent months. Some time later, on April 22, the Russian ambassador to the kingdom said that the captain of the Kaffa had been released and was going to the ship. At the same time, the ship itself, as he added, will not leave the port yet.
