Australia assessed the likelihood of an Israeli nuclear strike on Iran
If Israel realizes that it is losing the war, it can launch a nuclear strike on Iran. This opinion was expressed by Australian political analyst Mark Lowe in a conversation with Izvestia on April 22.
Officially, the Israeli authorities do not confirm the country's possession of nuclear weapons. However, it is believed that Tel Aviv has had such an arsenal since the late 1960s and early 1970s. In addition, the country has not signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
"[During the Israel-Iran conflict], everything revolved around nuclear weapons. And my main fear, which has not gone away so far, is that if Israel realizes that it is losing, the Zionists will launch a nuclear missile at Tehran," Lowe suggested.
According to him, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "doesn't care about American soldiers," and therefore he will use them until the military is dead. At the same time, the political scientist estimated the chances of a US military operation in Iran at 60%.
"What America will do is a question. I would say that the chance of sending troops is 60%. The question is how deep. Maybe they will come in lightly, see what the Iranians will do, and if they (the United States - Ed.) are kicked in the teeth, they will retreat. I don't know. It will be very interesting," Lowe said, adding that it is unlikely that American politicians will realize the consequences of such actions.
The political scientist stressed that Iran "will not budge" in negotiations and its political position if its basic requirements are not met: the lifting of sanctions, control over the Strait of Hormuz, and the free development of its nuclear program for peaceful purposes. He also compared Tehran's position with Russia's demands on the conflict in Ukraine.
"It's the same situation. The two leaders say clearly: "We are sovereign powers, we do not want chaos and destruction at our borders. Leave me alone. Leave us alone." Everything is simple. Therefore, I think the negotiations [between the United States, Israel and Iran] will lead to nothing," Low predicted.
He also called on Washington to "leave the Middle East alone" by removing its military bases from the region. According to Lowe, the time has come for multipolarity and sovereign states in the world, free from external control by the United States. In addition, he called the Middle East a dangerous region because of Israel's policies.
"The Middle East is a much more explosive place, especially with a country like Israel that does not recognize the existence of nuclear weapons and does not allow the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency. — Ed.) to their facilities. They would rather launch a nuclear bomb and blame it on someone else," the political scientist concluded.
On April 21, US President Donald Trump extended the ceasefire in the conflict with Iran at the request of Pakistan until the submission of Tehran's proposals and the completion of the negotiation process. According to him, the US military in the Middle East region remains on alert, and the naval blockade of Iranian ports continues. At the same time, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that the Iranian side does not recognize the extension of the ceasefire with the United States.
However, before the extension of the truce, the American leader reported that the United States expects the bombing of Iran to continue, as this will improve Washington's position in negotiations with Tehran.
