The termination of direct dialogue with Russia in connection with the conflict in Ukraine is the biggest mistake of the European Union (EU). This was announced by Slovenian President Natasha Pirc-Musar on April 17.

"Our biggest mistake was that Europe stopped talking to Russia," she said at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, which was broadcast on the event's website.

Pirz-Musar also expressed doubt that Washington will primarily take into account the interests of European countries in the process of negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement. In her opinion, the current situation has deprived the EU of the opportunity to independently influence the diplomatic process.

On April 13, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, pointed out the hypocrisy and double standards of the EU, saying that European countries purposefully fomented the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, instead of a good-faith dialogue and building a common security architecture in the region, European countries fostered Russophobic sentiments in Ukraine, pushed it into conflict with Russia, regardless of the fate of ordinary people, and systematically torpedoed the negotiation process.
