Alexander Ovechkin, captain and forward of the Washington Capitals hockey club, said he was not considering continuing his career with any other National Hockey League (NHL) club. The athlete's comment on Monday, April 16, was posted on her page on the social network X (ex.Twitter) journalist Sammy Silber.

"Probably not. Today I am a free agent," the 40—year-old hockey player replied when asked about the possibility of transferring to another North American league team.

The Russian's current contract with Washington expires this summer. In the regular season that ended for the capital's club, the striker scored 32 goals and made 32 assists.

Alexander Ovechkin has been playing for Washington since 2005. As a member of the club, he won the Stanley Cup in 2018.

Ovechkin said after the final match of the NHL regular season against the Columbus Blue Jackets on April 15 that he hopes to continue his career. As before, he plans to make a final decision on his future in the summer. Washington did not qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 2023, finishing ninth in the East (93 points).
