Antipascha (St. Thomas Sunday) ends the Bright Week and indicates a gradual return to the usual rhythm of worship. The celebration falls on the first Sunday after Easter, in 2026 it falls on April 19th. The holiday is popularly known as Krasnaya Gorka and is accompanied by special customs associated with spring, weddings and the renewal of life. Izvestia has prepared postcards and Anti-Easter greetings that can be shared on messengers and social networks.

The best postcards and greetings from Krasnaya Gorka

The prefix "anti" in the name of the celebration is translated from Greek as "instead of Easter" or "similar to Easter", which indicates the continuation of the feast of the Resurrection of Christ. On this day, the church remembers the Apostle Thomas, who did not believe in the Resurrection of the Savior. According to the Gospel, he did not see the first appearance of the risen Christ, so he doubted the miracle and declared that he would be able to verify the authenticity of what had happened only when he saw the nail wounds on Jesus' body and touched them.

Later, on the eighth day after Easter, the Son of God appeared again to the disciples, among whom was Thomas. Then Christ invited him to verify the reality of the events by allowing him to touch his wounds. Amazed, Thomas believed in the Resurrection of Christ. This event has become a symbol of strengthening the Christian faith.

The popular name "Krasnaya Gorka" is associated with the Old Russian understanding of the word "red", which meant "beautiful" or "spring". It was believed that in Russia, during the celebration, it was customary to go out to the hills, where the snow had already come down, and arrange festivities. Such places were called Krasnye gorki.

On this day, various spring rituals were held, people went outside, danced, met with friends and relatives. There was an opinion that this holiday should not be celebrated alone.

Special attention was paid to weddings. The fact is that after the end of Lent, the church allows weddings again, so many couples choose Krasnaya Gorka for marriage.

People believed that the holiday was the best time to get married. There was a belief that those who get married on this day will never get divorced. The celebration was also considered favorable for matchmaking and the beginning of a new relationship.

At this time, Orthodox Christians visit churches, participate in divine services, receive communion, and remember the appearance of Christ to the Apostle Thomas. After the service, it is customary to gather at the festive table with the family and eat Easter cakes and colored eggs.

There are also many limitations associated with Anti-Easter. It is believed that on this day one should not engage in magical rituals, as well as fortune-telling. In addition, it is not recommended to quarrel, conflict and show aggression. Such actions promise failure and sadness for a whole year. According to another superstition, you should not wear old clothes on a holiday and throw away half-eaten food. In the first case, this can lead to trouble, and in the second— to illness.
