- The Ministry of Finance has not ruled out discussing a tax on excess profits in the fall
The Russian Ministry of Finance has not yet proposed introducing a tax on excess profits, but this issue may be considered in the autumn as part of the budget cycle. This was announced on April 14 by Alexey Sazanov, State Secretary and Deputy Finance Minister of the Russian Federation.
"The Ministry of Finance has not yet announced such proposals, in principle, we have a budget cycle in the fall, and the budget package will be considered only in the fall, so there is no particular rush, we are studying the information. The Ministry of Finance has not sent such proposals," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
The agency is currently examining the companies' income tax reports for the previous year, which they submitted at the end of March, for excess income.
On April 6, Alexander Shokhin, head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), noted that there are currently no conditions for the introduction of a tax on excess profits for Russian companies. He noted that the Ministry of Finance has an estimate of the amount needed to cover the budget deficit, but the agency is trying to reduce it by reducing costs without introducing new taxes.
