The lawyer warned about the responsibility of users of social networks for avatars

Social media users are responsible for posting different images as avatars. This was announced on April 14 by Alexander Khaminsky, a lawyer and head of the Law Enforcement Center in Moscow and the Moscow Region.

According to him, posting photos on a social media page is the right of every user, but there are also restrictions.

"For example, the right to an image of a citizen is protected by Article 152.1 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, which states that the publication and use of a person's image is permissible only with his consent. The exception is use in the public or public interest," Khaminsky said in a conversation with RT.

This means that if a user puts a photo of another person, especially a famous one, on their avatar, a civil lawsuit may follow. Potentially, a citizen may be required to delete the image and even pay compensation if the offending account is commercial.

The lawyer also noted that it is prohibited by law to post images with extremist and Nazi symbols, as well as images that violate privacy or copyrights.

"If they are brought to administrative responsibility for a single fact of placing extremist and Nazi symbols, then they can face up to four years in prison for a repeat offense," he concluded.

The official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk reported on February 9 that two girls were detained in Belgorod for a video insulting residents and defenders of the Belgorod region. Prior to this, a video was distributed online in which drunk girls called several taxis from different services, but when they refused to transport them, they began to use obscene language towards the drivers. Later, they posted offensive video messages about Belgorod residents on social networks.
