Valentin Zhukov, the first president of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation, has died.

The first President of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation Valentin Zhukov died at the age of 89. This was reported on the WWF website on April 13.

Valentin Zhukov headed the federation from August 1991 to 2004. Since 2006, he has served as Honorary President of the WWF, and also worked as an adviser to the head of the organization and chairman of the Veterans' Commission.

"Russian volleyball has suffered a huge loss. The authority, charisma and character of Valentin Vasilyevich had a great influence on the development opportunities of our sport," the message says.

Zhukov was an honored coach of the USSR. He began his career working with youth and youth teams, including the national teams of the Soviet Union. Since 1970, he moved to administrative activities, and for 15 years he headed the Moscow Region Volleyball Federation.

The WWF noted that Zhukov took over the leadership of Russian volleyball during a difficult period after the collapse of the USSR, when leading players left for foreign clubs. Under his leadership, a new sports management system was being built, and work was underway with regional authorities and sponsors.

The specialist devoted the last 15 years of his life to the development of youth sports and supervised the holding of All-Russian competitions.
