In Latvia, a flower laying ceremony was held in Salaspils, dedicated to the International Day of Remembrance of Concentration Camp Prisoners. The April 11 footage is published by Izvestia.

"Today is such an important day. It is impossible not to be here today," said Zinaida Portnova, one of the Salaspils prisoners.

The participants also lit lamps at the memorial to the Victims of the concentration Camp. Former MEP Alfred Rubiks shared his memories of the years of the Great Patriotic War. He said that many people, including women and children, were driven from Riga to the site of the current memorial.

"In the snow, under the protection of troops. There was no food. Children died from everything, and blood was taken from them, <...> and allegedly this blood was transfused to wounded Germans, fascists," Rubiks added.

On April 7, in the Lithuanian city of Siauliai, archaeologists dug up the remains of 26 Soviet soldiers from the Great Patriotic War, buried near the Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Along with the remains, experts found elements of a Soviet military uniform — buttons, shoulder straps, leather belts, shoes and coins. Captain's and lieutenant's shoulder straps were found during the excavations. One of those buried was a major.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
