The German Red Cross reported the threat of a humanitarian disaster in Lebanon
Lebanon is facing a humanitarian catastrophe due to the ongoing Israeli strikes. This was announced on April 10 by the president of the German Red Cross (DRK), Hermann Gray.
"Many hospitals are overcrowded due to the large number of injured, and there is a threat of shortages of some medicines and raw materials, especially if the attacks continue," DRK president Hermann Gray told the Rheinische Post newspaper.
According to him, the humanitarian situation in Lebanon has deteriorated significantly. In recent days, more densely populated areas of the country have been shelled without sufficient early warning to civilians. The consequences are not yet fully clear, but we can talk about hundreds of dead and more than a thousand injured civilians. The armed conflict has reached new, even more devastating proportions.
The head of the DRK also expressed concern about the high death rate among humanitarian workers. In 2024 and 2025, more than 300 humanitarian workers died worldwide, many of whom worked in associations affiliated with DRK. Several people have already been killed this year, including one employee of the Lebanese Red Cross.
On the same day, Press TV reported that the Iranian authorities had postponed a trip to the Pakistani capital several times for talks with the United States in connection with the Israeli attacks on Lebanon. It is noted that pressure from Tehran forced Israel to stop attacks on the Lebanese capital Beirut, however, if the attacks resume, Iran's negotiations on ending the conflict with the United States will be canceled altogether.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on April 9 that Israel would limit attacks on Lebanon at the request of the United States in order not to disrupt negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Randa Slim, director of the Middle East program at the Stimson Center think tank, said that reducing Israeli strikes on Lebanon is actually a prerequisite for starting negotiations.
