- St. Petersburg announced the launch of production at the former Toyota plant in 2026.
In St. Petersburg, production at the former Toyota site will be restarted this year. This was announced on April 7 by the governor of the city, Alexander Beglov.
"In 2026, all car factories previously abandoned by foreign companies will be restarted, the site of the former Toyota plant in Shushary is no exception," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The head of the region recalled that the sites of other foreign automakers had already been brought back to work in St. Petersburg. In particular, the activities of the Saint Petersburg Automobile Plant (formerly Nissan) and the AGR Automobile Plant, which previously belonged to Hyundai, continue.
According to Beglov, the potential of the city in the automotive industry is now fully in demand by the country. He noted that consistent work is underway to restart all production facilities left by foreign companies after the start of the special operation.
In May 2026, AvtoVAZ will carry out a large-scale modernization of production lines and technological equipment related to the preparation for the release of the new Lada Azimut crossover. As noted on April 3, additional work is also planned on the second production line, where Niva family SUVs are produced.
