US Vice President Jay Dee Vance and special envoy of the American leader Stephen Witkoff are participating in negotiations from Washington with Tehran on a peace agreement. This was announced on April 6 by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, at a press conference.

"Yes, he [Vance] is involved, and we have Steve Witkoff and [entrepreneur] Jared Kushner, and they all act in concert, all keep in touch with each other, yes," he said, answering a question about the participants in the negotiations.

Trump added that the settlement process is going well. He also admitted that Vance could personally meet with Iranian officials for talks. With whom and when exactly, the American leader did not specify.

On the same day, Trump said that the conflict with Iran could end very quickly if Tehran fulfilled the necessary conditions. He also called Tuesday, April 7, the last deadline for ending the war. The US president added that the main goal is to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said on March 30 that Trump intends to reach a deal with Iran by April 6. According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, contacts with Iran continue, including through third countries.

On April 6, the Axios portal learned that the United States and Iran, with the participation of regional mediators, are discussing the possibility of concluding a truce for a period of 45 days. At the same time, it was noted that the chances of concluding an agreement within the next 48 hours are low. Nevertheless, these negotiations represent the last chance to stop the escalation of the conflict.
