Shokhin pointed out that there was no need to switch to a six-day work week.
There is no need to introduce a six-day working week and a 12-hour working day in Russia, this issue is not under discussion. This was announced on April 5 by the head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) Alexander Shokhin.
Commenting on businessman Oleg Deripaska's proposal to switch to an enhanced work schedule to transform the economy, Shokhin noted that the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs considers such a measure unnecessary.
The head of the union pointed to the low unemployment rate in the country, which is 2.1%, while maintaining high structural unemployment. He explained that some enterprises are introducing a four-day working week, while in other industries there is a shortage of personnel.
"We currently have a law in the State Duma on increasing flexibility in the labor market, where we are removing restrictions on overtime. It will probably be adopted soon, maybe even in this session," TASS quoted him as saying.
According to the head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, it is planned to increase the annual limit of overtime hours from 120 to 240. He clarified that this approach would be beneficial to employees because of the payment system. As Shokhin explained, simply extending the working day to 12 hours actually means working at one and a half hours, where additional time is paid in a single amount. If the law is passed, the first 120 hours of overtime must be paid in one and a half amounts, and the subsequent ones in double amounts.
Shokhin summarized that the purpose of the changes is to allow citizens to earn extra money at their main place of work, rather than looking for additional vacancies in the delivery industry or other industries. He called the preservation of the right of choice for employees a top priority.
On March 30, Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska called on Russia to switch to a six-day work schedule from 08:00 to 20:00. He believes that such measures are necessary to accelerate transformation in the face of external constraints.
On March 31, Vladislav Grib, Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, opposed Deripaska's proposal to introduce a six-day working week and a 12-hour working day. He also suggested that the entrepreneur work for a year or two at his factories as a simple worker and personally feel this schedule and mode of operation.
