Japan denied information about plans to send a delegation to Russia
The Japanese government has denied reports of plans to send an economic delegation to Russia. This was announced by Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan Minoru Kihara at a press conference on April 3.
"We are aware of reports that it is planned to send an economic delegation to Russia. As for whether this is true, it does not correspond to reality," TASS quoted him as saying.
According to Kihara, Tokyo intends to maintain the current restrictions on Moscow.
"The Japanese government will maintain sanctions against Russia, while providing support to Japanese companies that already operate in Russia," he added.
The Ryukyu Shimpo newspaper reported on April 2 that Japan may send an economic delegation to Russia in May to discuss the possible resumption of Japanese companies. According to the publication, representatives of large corporations, including Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsui & Co. and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, were invited to participate. It was also noted that the issue of Russian oil supplies to Japan may be raised during the visit.
