To reduce the risk of stroke, blood pressure in people over the age of 65 should not exceed 130-140. This was announced on March 28 by Elena Reznik, Head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases No. 2 at the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Pirogov University.

"It is extremely important to control blood pressure, because hypertension is a variable risk factor for stroke. Blood pressure under the age of 65 should be 120-130 /<80, over 65 — 130-140 /<80 mmHg. The pulse rate should normally be 55-80 beats per minute," she said in an interview with the newspaper.Ru».

According to the expert, it is enough for healthy people to measure blood pressure every few months during medical examinations. To get accurate results, half an hour before the measurement, you need to eliminate physical exertion, stress, heavy food, coffee, smoking and alcohol, and carry out the process in a calm state.

Reznik noted that stroke is becoming more common among young people. Therefore, it is important to monitor your health and adjust your lifestyle from a young age.

Science Daily magazine reported on March 22 that scientists have discovered a previously unknown mechanism for increasing blood pressure associated with the work of the brain region responsible for breathing. We are talking about the lateral parafacial region located in the brain stem, an area that controls the body's automatic functions, including breathing and heart rate. As the researchers found out, this area is activated during the so-called forced exhalation — during coughing, laughing or physical exertion.
