Astronauts of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Christopher Williams and Jessica Meir went into outer space from the International Space Station (ISS). The March 18 release was broadcast on the agency's website.
The main task of the crew is to prepare the energy channel and lay cables for the subsequent installation of additional new generation solar panels. The new panels are expected to increase the power supply to the plant.
The exit from the Quest gateway module began at 16:00 Moscow time and will last about 6.5 hours. This is the 278th spacewalk performed as part of the assembly and modernization of the ISS.
Seven crew members are currently working on the station: Roscosmos cosmonauts Andrey Fedyaev, Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergey Mikaev, NASA astronauts Christopher Williams, Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, as well as a representative of the European Space Agency Sophie Adeno, adds "Газета.Ru ".
On March 16, Roscosmos announced that the Progress MS-31 transport cargo ship had undocked from the ISS for subsequent flooding in the Pacific Ocean. Later it became known that the Progress MS-31 spacecraft was taken out of orbit and its structural elements fell in a non-navigable area of the Pacific Ocean.
