Ski climber Filippov told about his plans to ski down Everest

Olympic silver medalist and ski mountaineer Nikita Filippov announced on Saturday, January 14, that he plans to ski from the top of Mount Everest.

"Although Everest is a pop mountain, it is still the highest point in the world. And I want to visit it. There are plans to go there without oxygen, maybe even set a record. And be sure to ski down Everest and K2," Filippov said in an interview with TASS.

The height of Mount Everest is 8,848 m, K2 is 8,611 m. In 2025, the Pole Andrzej Bargel was able to climb Mount Everest and ski down it without oxygen.

Filippov became the only Russian sprint medalist at the 2026 Olympics on February 22. The Russian athlete won the silver medal, losing to the Spaniard Oriol Cardona Kohl.

On March 4, the Russian became the winner of the European Sprint Championship. In the final race, the 23-year-old ski climber covered the distance in 2 minutes 58.6 seconds.
