Greenland's Foreign Minister refutes claims of a "Russian threat"

Greenland's Minister of Independence and Foreign Affairs Vivian Motsfeldt, in an interview with Russian prank journalists Vladimir Kuznetsov (Vovan) and Alexey Stolyarov (Lexus), denied US statements about the threat from Russia and China in the region.

"We have made it very clear that there are no Russian or Chinese vessels in our waters, and we have no investments in Greenland from China or Russia," the minister admitted.

The minister also admitted that Greenland had completely severed ties with Russia in order to comply with the anti-Russian course of Brussels. According to her, in 2022, the island joined the EU sanctions and since then has not maintained any relations with Moscow, although previously about 15% of the region's exports accounted for Russia.

Speaking about relations with China, Motsfeldt noted that there are no Chinese investments in Greenland, but most of the fish are exported to China. In addition, the island is interested in attracting tourists from China, as well as many other countries.

On March 5, US Deputy Secretary of War for Political Affairs Elbridge Colby announced that Washington was actively working to establish control in Greenland. According to the politician, a process is currently underway that is focused on resolving the issue.

On January 25, Reuters reported that the United States had not abandoned plans to seize Greenland. At the same time, the American leader said he was ready to cooperate with NATO on Greenland's security issues. He added that after the negotiations held at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Greenland deal would give Washington greater authority on the island.
