- Trump announced the appointment of a new head of the US Department of Homeland Security
The head of the US Department of Homeland Security, Kristy Noem, will leave the post, and Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin will take her place. This was announced on March 5 by the American President Donald Trump.
"Senator from the great state of Oklahoma Markwayne Mullin will become the US Secretary of Homeland Security on March 31, 2026," he wrote on the Truth Social network.
Mullin is known as a proponent of tough immigration policy. His appointment is expected to influence the future course of the agency responsible for border control and combating illegal migration, the Reuters news agency adds.
The New York Times reported on February 17 that Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth personally ordered the resignation of one of the department's most experienced public relations specialists, Dave Butler. It is noted that Butler was the official representative of General Mark Milley during the period when he headed the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
