The Swedish Security Police (SÄPO) detained a Russian citizen at the request of the United States. This was announced on February 17 by TV4.

The man was on the international wanted list after being arrested in absentia in the United States and is suspected of violating sanctions between 2022 and 2023. Washington demanded his extradition.

"The case concerns an international arrest warrant. Since SÄPO is assisting another country in the investigation of a criminal case, we cannot go into details," said SÄPO spokesman Jonathan Svensson.

The Stockholm District Court has decided to detain the suspect pending a decision on his extradition, which must be approved by the Prosecutor General, the Supreme Court and the Swedish government.

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office reported that Morocco had extradited Russian citizen Dmitry Leonov, accused of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization. Leonov was charged under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including participation in an armed group abroad and activities in an organization recognized as terrorist in Russia. According to investigators, in 2012 he was in Syria and served as a Sharia judge in an illegal formation, which in 2015 became part of the banned Jabhat al-Nusra organization.
