Three guests of a private boarding house in Moscow died after an outbreak of pneumonia

Investigators have opened a criminal case after the deaths of three guests of the private boarding house "Dom Penino" in New Moscow. This was reported on February 17 in the capital's investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

"[The boarding house's] activities were conducted without notifying Rospotrebnadzor, with gross violations of sanitary and epidemiological standards. The food products arrived without accompanying documents, the staff did not have medical books, and at the same time as the food was being prepared, repairs were carried out to the production facilities," the department said in a message on its Telegram channel.

According to the investigation, as a result of unsanitary conditions in the boarding house, a massive pneumonia case occurred. 26 people were hospitalized with acute upper respiratory tract infection, three of them died.

The investigators, together with Rospotrebnadzor officers, inspected the scene, seized documentation and ordered forensic examinations.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence"). The investigation is ongoing.

On February 9, the press service of the capital's Investigative Committee reported that in a private boarding house in New Moscow, department staff were investigating the causes of community-acquired pneumonia in more than 10 guests. Investigators from the Moscow Investigative Committee and Rospotrebnadzor officers have examined the territory, and are also interrogating the management and staff.
