- German figure skater Volodin waits for pancakes from Russia from his mother after the OI medal
Nikita Volodin, a figure skater for Germany, who represents pair skating with Minerva Fabien Haze, expects to receive pancakes from his mother on Shrovetide. The athlete told about it on February 17 in an interview with TASS.
The native of St. Petersburg, who changed his sports citizenship in the 2023/24 season, won the bronze medal in a pair with Haze. Despite leading after the short program, the German duo missed the skaters from Georgia and Japan at the end of the competition.
The skater noted that he has not yet managed to fully introduce his partner to the traditions of Russian culture, and therefore sees the risk of being left without food for the holiday.
"Maybe Mom will cook it and send it," Volodin added.
Mikhail Shaidorov, a figure skater from Kazakhstan, became the winner among men at the 2026 Olympics on February 14. Japanese Yuma Kagiyama took second place, Japanese Shun Sato took third place, and Russian figure skater Pyotr Gumennik took sixth place.
