The Ministry of Defense allowed conscripts to serve as firefighters.

Conscripted military personnel will be able to work in the units of the Federal Fire Service. This initiative was coordinated with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. This was announced on February 16 by the head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Alexander Kurenkov, during a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption.

"A separate issue is the involvement of conscripted military personnel to man the responding units of the Federal Fire Service. This initiative has already been agreed with the Russian Defense Ministry," he said.

Kurenkov noted that if this initiative is approved, it will be necessary to amend the Federal Law on Fire Safety.
