The State Duma announced the absence of shortened working days before Defender of the Fatherland Day

In 2026, there will be no shortened working days before Defender of the Fatherland Day. This was announced on February 14 by Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs.

According to him, reducing the working day by one hour is possible only if the holiday falls on a day off.

"Since February 23 falls on a Monday in the coming year, Friday, February 20, will not be a shortened day," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Nilov noted that this is a standard legal norm aimed at streamlining the work schedule. However, despite the absence of a shortened day, Russians will enjoy a full three-day weekend from February 21 to 23. In addition, the deputy suggested that employers, where there is an opportunity to make appropriate management decisions, allow employees to leave their jobs early in honor of the holiday.
