- The leader of the terrorist cell from the Dagestan colony was given an increased sentence
The military Court of Appeal has increased the sentence of the leader of the terrorist group Arbahan Akhmedov, who studied the radical ideology and practices of terrorism in the Dagestan colony. This was reported to the RIA Novosti news agency on January 13 in the instance.
It is noted that by court decision, Akhmedov was sentenced to 23 years in prison. He will spend the first five years in prison, and the rest of the time in a maximum–security colony.
In October 2024, Akhmedov was sentenced to 20 years. The investigation revealed that he, along with other participants, became a member of a terrorist cell while in prison. Akhmedov was one of the elders in the group, regularly conducting classes on the study of Islamist radical ideology and terrorist practices. In March 2020, he became the head of this community.
On February 10, the Southern District Military Court sentenced to 20 years in prison a man who was preparing to blow up the government building of the Stavropol Territory. It was clarified that the defendant recorded a video about his readiness to act in the interests of the Islamic State organization (IS, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) and received instructions from its head about the location of the terrorist attack. In December 2023, he purchased the components, manufactured an improvised explosive device, and hid it. Law enforcement officers were able to detain the attacker before blowing up the building.
