At the 2026 Winter Olympics, which are taking place from February 6 to 22 in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, a series of disqualifications occurred for both athletes and coaches. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

Cancellation of the results of South Korean skiers

South Korean skiers Lee Eui-jin and Han Da-som lost their results after qualifying for the classic sprint. The athletes did not qualify for the quarterfinals without making it into the top 30.

The results of the skiers were annulled, because after the finish, the organizers revealed the use of gel containing fluoride by the athletes. This product has been banned since the 2023/24 season.

Disqualification of the Ukrainian skeletonist Geraskevich

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has disqualified Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladislav Geraskevich for using a banned helmet. The ministry stressed that the athlete violated the rules of the organization, which relate to the self-expression of athletes.

Representatives of the IOC offered Geraskevich and the Ukrainian National Olympic Committee alternative ways to demonstrate his position, but the athlete rejected them.

The last time Kirsty Coventry, the head of the committee, offered him to change his equipment was on the morning of February 12, but the athlete also refused.

Suspension of the coach of the Finnish ski jumping team

The disqualification measures affected not only the athletes, but also the coaching staff. For example, the head coach of the Finnish ski jumping team, Igor Medved, was suspended from participation due to an alcohol-related scandal.

Until the end of the Olympic Games, Finnish skiers will be forced to continue performing without a mentor. It is expected that this incident will not affect the athletes' admission to the starts in any way, but it will change the training system.

Disqualification of biathlete Rebecca Passler

Suspensions from participation in competitions occurred before the start of the 2026 Olympics. The Italian Anti-Doping Agency has suspended Rebekah Passler from participating in the Games after traces of methanol and letrozole were found in her doping test.

The athlete attempted to appeal this decision to the Visiting Panel of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The claim was dismissed due to the lack of a preliminary appeal to the national arbitration court.
