- Georgia declares EU's readiness to introduce tanks into the country "for the sake of democracy"
Some European leaders are ready to send tanks to Georgia to "establish democracy," despite the lack of such an opportunity. This was announced on February 11 by the chairman of the country's parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.
"When I look at some people in Brussels and some capitals, I understand that if they had the will, they would have brought tanks to Georgia to establish democracy, not just sanctions," he was quoted as saying by Georgia's Channel One.
Papuashvili added that the behavior of Brussels demonstrated to the Georgian people the discrepancy between their values and European ones.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at the end of December 2025 that the European Union had used the topic of Georgia's possible European integration to blackmail and exert pressure on the country. He noted that NATO's open-door policy eventually turned out to be a "draught policy," where the issue of European integration was used only as a tool of blackmail against Georgia.
