The court sentenced a man to 20 years for preparing a terrorist attack in Stavropol
A court has sentenced to 20 years in prison a man who was preparing to blow up the government building of the Stavropol Territory. This was announced on February 10 by the Southern District Military Court.
It is clarified that the defendant recorded a video about his readiness to act in the interests of the Islamic State organization (IS, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) and received instructions from its head about the location of the terrorist attack. In December 2023, he purchased the components, manufactured an improvised explosive device, and hid it. Law enforcement officers were able to detain the attacker before blowing up the building.
"The defendant was found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 20 years in a high—security penal colony with serving the first five years in prison with a fine of 1 million rubles," the Telegram channel of the instance says.
On February 2, the FSB of Russia prevented a terrorist attack in the building of the FSB in the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol. It was noted that as part of the so-called verification task, the man was instructed to bring a portable audio speaker into the FSB headquarters building, allegedly designed to identify "traitors" among employees. Several criminal cases have been initiated against the suspect, including cases under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 1 of Article 205 ("Attempted terrorist act") and part 4 of Article 205.1 ("Assistance to terrorist activities").
