Elena Kosenko, a resident of the Kherson region, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for spying for Ukrainian intelligence. This was announced on February 9 by the regional prosecutor's office.

The court found that in April 2024, Kosenko, while in the Kherson region, voluntarily collected information about the movement and deployment of military equipment, as well as personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. She sent the received data via messenger to representatives of the Ukrainian intelligence service.

It is noted that the prosecutor's office supported the charge, pointing out that this data could have been used to strike at the locations of the Russian military.

"She was found guilty under Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Espionage"). <...> The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced Kosenko to imprisonment for a period of 10 years to be served in a correctional colony of the general regime," the prosecutor's office said in a Telegram channel.

On February 4, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea sentenced a resident of Feodosia to 18 years in prison in a high-security penal colony in a case of high treason. It was clarified that the man, through the WhatsApp messenger (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation), transferred photographs, videos and electronic files to the Ukrainian special service.
