"For a number of medicines, cooling, and especially freezing, not only does not improve safety, but also directly leads to the loss of their therapeutic properties and even to the formation of hazardous decomposition products," the expert warned.

He reminded that it is possible to get acquainted with the storage conditions in the instructions for the medicine. The recommendations are developed by the manufacturer and are individual for each drug.

The conditions inside the refrigerator combine both low temperatures and high humidity. When drugs are stored without sealed packaging, they may become damp. This effect is especially critical on tablets, some ointments, powders and capsules, for which exposure to such conditions is unacceptable.

"Low temperatures often lead to crystallization and precipitation of sugars and other components, making precise dosing impossible. Liquid extracts and tinctures can become cloudy and change their properties. In addition, it is not necessary to store medicines near food products that emit water and strong odors (vegetables, fruits, fish), as this negatively affects the quality of the drugs," Panov said.

On January 24, expert Maria Zolotareva spoke about the specifics of defrosting the refrigerator. For a safe procedure, it is recommended to transfer products from the freezer to an area with a temperature no higher than -15 degrees, and store chilled products at +4 degrees. Moisture and contaminated surfaces are eliminated by gentle treatment with 6-9% acetic acid or 3% hydrogen peroxide, followed by rinsing and drying.
