Fars reported on the start of negotiations between Iran and the United States in Oman
Negotiations between Iran and the United States to resolve the crisis over the Iranian nuclear program have begun in Muscat, Oman. This was reported on February 6 by the Fars news agency.
It is noted that the Iranian delegation is headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic Abbas Araqchi, and the American delegation is headed by the US Special Envoy Stephen Witkoff.
The current contacts were the first after a long break in the dialogue, which lasted several months and was associated with the transition of the Iranian-Israeli confrontation to an open phase in June 2025. Up to this point, Tehran and Washington have managed to hold five rounds of negotiations.
Immediately before the meeting with the American side, Araqchi held separate talks with Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi. During this conversation, the Iranian side conveyed to the mediator its proposals and approaches for a possible resumption of dialogue with the United States.
The Axios portal reported on February 3 that Iran demanded that the talks be postponed from Turkey to Oman. In addition, it was stated that Iran intended to hold talks without the participation of observers from Arab countries.
Iran has previously indicated its readiness to make a deal with the United States by suspending or completely shutting down its nuclear program. It was noted that Tehran would prefer the proposal to create a regional consortium for the production of nuclear energy put forward by the United States last year.
