The social Fund named the top popular names of newborns in Russia in 2025

Sofia and Mikhail became the most popular names for newborns in 2025. This was reported on February 6 in the press service of the Social Fund of Russia.

Eva, Anna, Alexander and Artyom are also among the top names.

"Top 5 names for newborns in 2025. Girls: Sofia (3.6%), Eva (3.15%), Anna (3.01%), Maria (2.62%), Varvara (2.62%). Boys: Mikhail (4.03%), Alexander (3.56%), Artyom (3.11%), Matvey (2.68%), Timofey (2.43%)," RIA Novosti reports.

The press service of the SFR clarified that Varvara has entered the top 5 female names since 2024, replacing Victoria, and among boys the name Dmitry has risen in the ranking, while Mark has dropped to 10th place.

Svetlana Ukhaneva, head of the Moscow Registry Office, reported on January 21 that in the capital, parents also chose unusual names for newborns. Among the boys there were Prokhor, Korney, Lavrenty and Mars, among the girls — Marusya, Lyra, Olympics and Ocean.
