Russia does not impose itself on the United States, Iran and Israel, but it is not indifferent to how the situation in the Middle East will develop. This was announced on January 5 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"At the moment, we are not imposing ourselves as intermediaries on Israel, Iran or the United States. In our contacts with them, we just discuss this situation," Lavrov said in an interview with journalist Rick Sanchez for RT.

According to him, Moscow is discussing the current escalation in the Middle East in contacts with Israel, the United States and Iran. The minister warned that the complication of relations between the United States and Iran is potentially explosive not only for Tehran, but for the entire region.

According to him, Iran is a close partner of the Russian Federation, and Moscow cares how the situation develops with the current escalation in the region.

The day before, it was reported that the talks between the United States and Iran in Oman scheduled for Friday had been canceled. The United States has told Iran that it will not agree to Tehran's demands to change the venue and format of the meeting. If Iran is ready to return to the original format, the meeting may be held this week or next.

Earlier, on February 3, the Axios portal reported that Iran demanded that the negotiations be postponed from Turkey to Oman. Prior to this, Tehran had indicated its readiness to make a deal with the United States by suspending or completely shutting down its nuclear program.
