Moscow intends to continue to provide Caracas with the necessary assistance and support efforts to protect its sovereignty. This was announced on February 5 by Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia, speaking to Russian journalists.

"We fully support the efforts made by the official authorities (of Venezuela — Ed.) to protect state sovereignty and national interests," Nebenzia said.

He stressed that Russia intends to further develop cooperation with Venezuela in all areas.

"We continue to provide necessary support to our friendly Venezuela and intend only to strengthen all areas of our strategic partnership," the Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations added.

Earlier in the day, Venezuelan Ambassador to Russia Jesus Rafael Salazar Velazquez reported that the United States does not control his country's foreign policy. According to him, Caracas independently determines the directions of international cooperation in accordance with the constitution and decisions of the national authorities. He also noted that Venezuela reserves the right to develop relations with any state.
