Cyclist Alina Lysenko won a bronze medal at the European Track Cycling Championships in Konya, Turkey, on February 4.
Lysenko defeated German athlete Paulina Grabosch in the sprint quarterfinals. However, in the semifinals, she lost to the future European champion, British Emma Finucane.
In the race for third place, Lysenko faced German cyclist Lia Sophie Friedrich. In a tense struggle, the Russian athlete won, beating her opponent first by 0.006 seconds, and then increasing the gap to 0.083 seconds. These races brought her the bronze medal of the continental championship.
After the end of the European Championship, Lysenko noted that she was happy with her form, but she believes that she is not ready to fight the leaders yet.
"The emotions are positive anyway. Thank you all for your support, I am very glad that my coach was in the stands, watching my performance live, although he could not be there. We will continue to work and prepare for the next competitions," she said.
Now, after the European Championships, Lysenko will begin preparations for the first stage of the World Cup, which will be held in Australia in early March.
