- The media learned about the expulsion of the children of the murdered Portnov from school for the safety of students
A school in Spain has expelled the children of Andrei Portnov, the murdered ex-adviser to former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, fearing for the safety of other students. This was reported on February 2 by the newspaper El Mundo.
"We tried to take into account the interests of these three girls and the rest of the students. After the incident, the issue of safety arose. We didn't know if it could happen again. There were parents who did not hide their fear, but this is normal," the Madrid school said.
According to the newspaper, Portnov's widow Anastasia Valyaeva filed a complaint with the Ministry of Education of Madrid, saying that her daughters were "kicked out" of the educational institution after the murder of their father. The Agency ruled that the school had violated the children's right to education by excluding them for personal family reasons, and demanded that the decision be reversed within 10 days.
The school stated that they did not agree with the verdict and intended to appeal it. The family's lawyer, Pedro Resino, noted that the girls were expelled at the most difficult moment of their lives, although they had not committed serious disciplinary violations, the newspaper reported.
The murder of Portnov in the vicinity of Madrid became known in May last year. He was shot dead near Madrid. The killer was waiting for the victim on a motorcycle at the school gates. When Portnov arrived, the attacker shot him at least nine times, after which he quickly disappeared.
The Spanish court has classified the murder trial. Later it became known that the Spanish national police is investigating a possible connection between Portnov's trip to Ukraine and his murder in Madrid a few days later.
