- The Russian Foreign Ministry called the U.S. nuclear program proposal to Iran an ultimatum.
The US proposals to Iran on its nuclear program are tantamount to ultimatums. This was announced on February 3 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
"What is being proposed, in my opinion, is tantamount to an ultimatum to Tehran," TASS quoted him as saying.
According to him, the word "compromise" has virtually disappeared from Washington's vocabulary. In addition, he also said that at the moment there are no prerequisites for resuming a substantive dialogue with the United States on strategic stability issues.
Ryabkov stressed that this requires fundamental changes in the approach of the American side to relations with Russia.
The day before, it was reported that US President's special envoy Stephen Witkoff is expected to hold talks on the Iranian nuclear program with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on February 6 in Istanbul. According to the Axios portal, the meeting is seen as part of attempts to resume dialogue between Washington and Tehran amid ongoing tensions.
On January 28, US President Donald Trump threatened Iran with a more powerful strike than the previous one, and said that a "huge armada" was moving towards the coast of the republic, surpassing in scale the fleet previously sent by the United States to the shores of Venezuela. Some time later, on January 31, he expressed hope for continued negotiations with Tehran.
