German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has responded to criticism over the mandatory examination of the genitals of conscripts, known in the country as the "testicle check." This was reported by the Bild newspaper on January 31.

He stressed that the examination is carried out by medical professionals in accordance with the need to identify inguinal hernias and testicular tumors and is not humiliating.

"Medical professionals determine which examinations are necessary. And this, of course, will comply with the principles of respectful treatment," he said.

Pistorius added that women do not undergo genital examinations as part of this procedure.

Tagesschau reported on January 15 that the Bundeswehr had sent the first questionnaires for young Germans about military service in connection with the adoption by the Bundestag of the conscription reform law. It was noted that after receiving the letter, men over the age of 18 are required to fill out a questionnaire. At the same time, for girls, this issue remains at their own discretion.
