The Russian position on Iran has not changed, and due attention is being paid to the situation around this state in bilateral contacts. This was announced on January 30 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"We regularly comment on the Russian-Iranian agenda. We have issued several official statements in this regard. I have nothing to add to them now. The position has not changed," she replied when asked if there had been a request for Iranian assistance in connection with US threats to launch airstrikes.

The diplomat also noted that various aspects of the situation around Iran are being discussed as part of an intensive political dialogue between Moscow and Tehran.

On January 14, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the nature of diplomatic relations between Russia and Iran meets the interests of the two countries and the two peoples, and is also embodied in a number of practical projects. Among them are the construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant and the implementation of plans for the North—South corridor in the field of transport infrastructure.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump wrote on January 28 that the next attack by the United States on Iran would be worse for Tehran than the strikes in the summer of 2025. As the American leader noted, a "huge armada" is moving towards Iran, which surpasses in scale the fleet previously sent by the United States to the shores of Venezuela.

On January 24, Sky News TV channel quoted a senior Iranian official as saying that Iran would consider any strike directed at the state as a full-scale war against it. At the same time, an Iranian representative told the channel that the build-up of American military power, in his opinion, may not be aimed at a real confrontation.
