A resident of Belgorod was sentenced to 16 years in prison for financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine

A court has sentenced a Belgorod resident to 16 years in prison for transferring funds to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on January 29 by the press service of the Prosecutor's office of the Belgorod region.

"The Second Western District Military Court sentenced a 44-year-old resident of Belgorod. <...> The perpetrator was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment in a high—security penal colony," the department's Telegram channel says.

It is specified that he was found guilty of crimes under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("High treason") and part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code ("Financing of terrorism"). The prosecutor's office added that the man will serve his sentence in prison for the first four years, and after that his freedom will be restricted for one year.

According to the prosecutor's office, in the period from January 2023 to October 2024, the suspect transferred more than 600 thousand rubles to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In October 2024, the criminal activity of the defendant was stopped.

On the same day, a resident of Tula was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for financing the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It was noted that the person involved transferred money through a crypto exchange from a bank card using a mobile application. The court added that the funds were intended for the purchase of weapons, radio stations and uniforms for the Ukrainian army, nationalist battalions and extremist organizations.
