- Scientists have reported the risk of repeated magnetic storms in the coming days.
A weak magnetic storm has been observed on Earth in the last 24 hours, and there is a possibility of its recurrence. This was announced on January 29 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"The geomagnetic situation was characterized by short-term disturbances and a mild magnetic storm. Flash activity was low. The forecast for the next day: the geomagnetic situation maintains the risks of repeated magnetic storms," the laboratory's Telegram channel says.
The scientists noted that the geomagnetic situation is now moderately disturbed, with increased speed and temperature of the solar wind due to the effects of the coronal hole. Despite its "microscopic" size, it has an impact on the planet due to its convenient location in the Sun.
The Earth will remain in the coronal hole's impact zone for about another day, which can lead to repeated short-term geomagnetic disturbances and storms.
In the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) On January 28, the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that a stream of solar wind from the coronal hole reached the Earth, and in the near future it may cause weak magnetic storms. From about 18 to 20 hours Moscow time, intense auroras were observed (8 out of 10 points), registered mainly in the northwestern region of Russia.
