- Due to the lack of people in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it was proposed to involve foreigners with a residence permit in the service.
Commander of the intelligence unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Denis Yaroslavsky proposed to create an international unit on the territory of the state, involving foreign citizens with a residence permit (residence permit) in the service. This was reported on January 28 in the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian agency UNIAN.
According to Yaroslavsky, more than 100 thousand foreigners of military age live in the country, who can be involved in contract service.
"Yaroslavsky proposed at the General Staff to create an international unit based on the assault forces and introduce compulsory contract service for such foreigners for a period of six months," the publication says.
It is noted that if this proposal is accepted, foreigners will be able to choose between serving in the army or the opportunity to leave the country. Those who complete the service will be given the opportunity to keep a residence permit or apply for Ukrainian citizenship.
Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense, said on January 24 that Ukrainian militants who had signed a short-term "youth" contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine were not eligible for postponement in case of demobilization and were subject to immediate mobilization.
