The Russian-Chinese film "Red Silk" has become a real socio-cultural phenomenon and a socio-political event in 2025. This was announced on January 27 by Svetlana Balanova, General Director of the National Media Group (NMG).

"The film has become a real socio-cultural phenomenon, and even a kind of socio—political event," she said in an interview with Xinhua news agency.

Svetlana Balanova noted that the project, created jointly by China and Russia, successfully overcame the difficulty of balancing characters, making both Russians and Chinese the main characters. This, among other things, allowed viewers in the Russian Federation to perceive the tape as Russian, and in China as Chinese.

"We regard Red Silk as the first step in the implementation of a systematic approach that will help mutually promote the best national films and jointly create films that demonstrate the common values of the two peoples," the NMG CEO emphasized.

She drew attention to the fact that joint projects are "a driver for the development and implementation of the latest technologies" in film production, as well as the exchange of experience between film schools in Russia and China.

"Of course, one of the most striking film premieres of 2025, as well as an example of Russian-Chinese joint film production, was the feature film Red Silk. This historical adventure detective aroused great interest among viewers from both countries," added Anna Yarina, Director of the Cinematography Department of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The Russian-Chinese historical blockbuster "Red Silk" was widely released in China on September 6 last year. At the same time, Chinese viewers shared their impressions after watching the film, noting the high quality of the plot and the performance of the actors. By October 9, the blockbuster had grossed almost $2 million at the Chinese box office.

The film was created with the participation of NMG Kinoprokat, a company that is part of the National Media Group holding. The film's distributor in China is the largest film corporation, China Film Group.
