The European Union (EU) restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats are discriminatory, as such measures relate exclusively to Russian representatives. This decision will also complicate the work of the diplomatic mission. This was announced on January 27 at the Russian Embassy in France.

"This will undoubtedly create additional difficulties in the work, not to mention the fact that we are talking, in fact, about a discriminatory measure, since this procedure has been introduced only in relation to Russian diplomats," RIA Novosti reports the text of the statement.

The embassy promised to give an answer in case of abuse of this measure by the EU.

The day before, the Russian Embassy in The Hague announced that the Netherlands had informed the Russian Embassy of new restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats across the territory of the European Union. According to diplomats, the actions of the European authorities are regarded as part of a consistent strategy of exerting pressure and selective application of legal norms, and they only confirm the trend towards politicized and discriminatory treatment of Russian diplomats, which has become commonplace in Brussels.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said last August that Russia would take retaliatory measures to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats across the EU. In addition, she noted that such "obsessive" ideas are born in the minds of European politicians, which they begin to "maniacally" promote to their own detriment.
