On January 27, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the extension of the state of emergency in the American capital until Wednesday due to a snow storm.

"The state of emergency due to snowfall in Washington has been extended until Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. (17:30 Moscow time)," the mayor said on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

ABC News TV channel, citing data from the National Weather Service, reported on the same day that in some places the height of the snow cover formed in the eastern United States is 40 cm. The bad weather, as it was emphasized, led to the cancellation of over 11 thousand flights at that time. On January 23, CBS News reported that 14 US states and the District of Columbia had declared a state of emergency due to the impending extreme cold and heavy snowfall.
