The Russian Academy of Sciences advised washing vegetables better because of the Nipah virus

Russians should not be afraid of the Nipah virus, but it is important to be responsible when planning trips abroad. This was announced on January 25 by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education Gennady Onishchenko.

"Russians need to be responsible, there is nothing to be afraid of. <...> The main thing is our people. Of course, it is impossible not to travel to these countries and there is no need to prohibit it. In those places where it was noted, it is better to refrain," he told RIA Novosti.

The expert stressed that regular hand washing and careful processing of fruits and vegetables before consumption play an important role in prevention.

He also pointed out that there is currently no vaccine against the Nipah virus. At the same time, Onishchenko noted that, in principle, it is possible to create it.
