Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, abducted by the US Armed Forces, could become a victim of betrayal by some of the republic's security forces. This was announced on January 25 by Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Sergey Melik-Baghdasarov on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

"Of course, many local security forces did not do what they could have done. If we consider what happened here long before this event to be a betrayal, of course it was," he said.

He noted that individuals systematically cooperated with the American special services. Melik-Baghdasarov added that we are talking about specific people who have left the territory of Venezuela.

On the same day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced that Russia was maintaining its previous position regarding the US actions to detain Maduro. According to him, from the first hours after the information about the incident appeared, Moscow raised the issue of the need to release the Venezuelan leader.

On January 13, US President Donald Trump, commenting on the large-scale strike that his Air Force launched against Venezuela, called this operation, during which Maduro and his wife Celia Flores were captured, "the most impeccable" and "brilliant."
